Documentation for creating custom credential types?

Hi,

Is there some documentation available about how these custom credential types should be created and what different configuration options are available?

Would be nice to have some documentation available where would be some instructions about different configuration possibilities available. For example what different type of fields I can create with this JSON configuration or how to configure regex validation for this specific field etc. Is there some documentation about this available or would it be possible to create one?

Hi Santeri,

Thank you for pointing out this gap in our documentation. The process for creating and managing custom credential types is now covered here:

https://docs.sciencelogic.com/latest/Content/Web_Monitoring_Tools/Discovery_and_Credentials/credentials.htm#creating-a-new-universal-credential-type

Hello Santeri,

The documentation here Credential Management explains each credential type and how to edit the credentials. However, how you modify the credential to monitor a specific type of device depends entirely on that device, especially for more complex credentials like SOAP/XML and Database credentials. These instructions are in the PowerPack manuals for the specific device you are monitoring, i.e. the IBM: DB2 PowerPack manual contains instructions on how to create credentials to monitor DB2 databases specifically.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. What I meant here was how to create custom credential types, not credentials themselves. In the AP2 GUI, under System -> Manage -> Credentials, there is a Types tab where I can create a new credential type. It seems that some kind of JSON configuration needs to be created, based on which the new credential type is defined. I would like to see documentation on this — specifically, what configuration options are available — so that I can create my own credential types and use them when setting up monitors.

Hello Santeri,

Thank you for the clarification. The Create New button creates Universal Credential Types. The documentation I linked to before has more information on Universal Credentials, but we do not have a guide on how to create a new universal credential type. You can review some of the existing Universal credential types in the Types tab to see how to configure the JSON. Otherwise, I recommend reaching out to our Professional Services team if there is a specific device you need to monitor with a new universal credential type.

Hello Santeri,

Thank you for the suggestion. Can you please submit this to our Idea's Hub so that our Product Management team is made aware that there is a desire for a guide on the creation of new universal credential types in our documentation?
